Steel prices and tender delays: what the trade press saw that the dailies missed
Trade publications reported rising steel prices and postponed public tenders for most of August. The daily press covered neither until a large road project was put on hold.

What the trade press saw
From the first week of August, construction trade sites carried a steady run of short items: suppliers revising prices, contractors withdrawing bids, and municipal tenders moved to the autumn. None of them made the front page of a trade title, let alone a daily.
The day it became news
On 2 September the ministry announced that a motorway section would be retendered. The daily press covered it as a single decision. The trade coverage showed it as the most visible of more than twenty similar postponements.
The dailies reported the decision. The trade press had reported the pattern.

What this means for construction companies
For a contractor or supplier, the pattern mattered more than the headline. It showed which clients were delaying, in which regions, and why. That information was public for five weeks before the general press noticed.
